1. Introduction

The Learning Cabinet is an initiative managed by UNICEF’s Learning Innovation Hub in collaboration with key partners (strategic private and public sector entities). The platform is administered by designated UNICEF personnel and trusted technical contractors operating under UNICEF’s data protection standards (“Administrators”). While the platform showcases education technology (“EdTech”) solutions and facilitates expert reviews, neither EdTech providers (private sector entities that develop and sell education technology solutions to the public) nor reviewers have access to other users’ personal data unless explicitly stated. Administrators do not include EdTech providers or external users unless formally contracted under UNICEF’s supervision.

What does this Policy cover?

Taking care of your personal data is important to us. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and store personal data when you access and interact with the Learning Cabinet platform and details the measures we take to protect your personal data. In this policy, "personal data" refers to information identifying you directly or indirectly, including your name, email address, phone number, organization, role, IP address, and device-specific information. 

Please carefully read this Learning Cabinet Privacy Policy before using the Learning Cabinet. Continued use of the Learning Cabinet implies your acceptance of this policy. Target audience: This platform is mainly intended for education decision-makers, EdTech provider, and expert reviewers of solutions submitted by EdTech providers. Access to the Learning Cabinet platform is not intended for children and youth under 18. We use your personal data for the following purposes: 

  • Service Delivery: To register you as a new user, manage your account, and provide you with the services you request. 
  • Communication: To communicate with you regarding updates, events, and other relevant information. 
  • Improvement of Services: To understand how you use our services and to improve them.
  • Analytics: To monitor and analyze trends, usage, and activities to improve user experience. We use Google Analytics for this purpose, which collects and processes data about your use of our website, including your IP address. As used in this Privacy Policy, “we,” “us,” and “our” refers to UNICEF. The terms “you,” “your”, “yours” and “user” refer to you as the individual accessing or using Learning Cabinet.

What is not covered by this Policy?

This Policy does not cover third-party data collection and processing, such as: Data captured by third-party authentication services (Microsoft B2C Login). 

  • Data collection by Google Analytics and Hotjar (though you may opt-out during cookie consent prompts).
  • External websites linked within the Learning Cabinet platform. 

Please note that certain links on Learning Cabinet platform may lead to resources maintained by third parties over which we have no control, including websites maintained by other UN entities or UNICEF associates. Third party collection, use and processing of your information is governed by their privacy policy. How do we protect your personal data?

We are committed to protecting your personal data. Specifically:

  1. We collect minimal data necessary for platform functionality. 
  2. We ensure contractual safeguards are in place with third-party service providers to maintain data confidentiality and security. 
  3. Your personal data will not be sold or used outside the purposes described herein.
  4. We implement technical and organizational security measures to protect your data against loss, misuse, and unauthorized access.

EdTech Assessment Submitter Data 

  • Data Collected: First name, Last name, Email address 
  • Purpose: To communicate regarding submitted assessments 
  • Accessed by: Administrators and expert reviewers only 

EdTech Contact Person Data 

  • Data Collected: First name, Last name, Email address, Phone number 
  • Purpose: Public listing for contact purposes 
  • Accessed by: Public

Learning Cabinet Visitors 

  • Data Collected (voluntary): Organization, Role, Email address 
  • Purpose: Understanding user cohorts, targeted communication 
  • Accessed by: Administrators only 

Expert Reviewers 

  • Data Collected: First name, Last name, Email address 
  • Purpose: Authentication and communication regarding assessments 
  • Accessed by: Administrators only 

Automated Data Collection 

  • Data Collected: IP address, browser type/version, device specifics, website usage patterns
  • Purpose: Analytics and improving user experience
  • Tools: Google Analytics, Hotjar (with opt-out options provided) 

When you use this site, we and our third-party service providers may collect information about you and your device through automated means, such as cookies and web server logs.
