Introduction
The Learning Cabinet is a partnership initiative led by UNICEF in collaboration with strategic partners, designed as a curated online platform for discovering educational technology (“EdTech”) solutions. These Terms of Use (“Terms”) govern your access to and use of the Learning Cabinet website and services (“the platform”). By using the platform, you agree to comply with these Terms. Please read them carefully in conjunction with our Privacy Policy (which explains how we handle your data). If you are under 18 years old, please review these Terms with a parent or guardian and obtain their consent before using the platform. When this document says “Learning Cabinet,” “we,” “us,” or “our,” it refers to UNICEF and its collaborators operating the platform. When we say “you” or “user,” we mean any individual or entity accessing the Learning Cabinet.
In Simple Terms: Key Points
Purpose of the Platform: The Learning Cabinet is a free, easy-to-navigate collection of top-tier EdTech tools evaluated through UNICEF’s EdTech for Good framework. It helps policymakers, educators, school administrators, and innovators find and compare EdTech solutions. We do not charge any fees for using the platform. No Endorsement: Inclusion of an EdTech product or service on the platform does not mean UNICEF or its partners endorse or recommend it. We present information for your reference, but you should make independent decisions. Accuracy of Information: We strive to ensure information on the platform is up-to-date and vetted for quality, but we do not guarantee that all product details (especially those provided by third-party EdTech providers) are accurate, complete, or current. Responsible Use: You agree to use the Learning Cabinet responsibly – do not engage in unlawful, harmful, or abusive activities, do not impersonate others, and do not compromise the platform’s security. Intellectual Property: Content on the platform is protected by intellectual property laws. You may use it for personal or educational purposes, but you cannot reuse it commercially without permission. UNICEF’s name and logo (and those of our partners) are protected and cannot be used without authorization. AI-Based Insights: The platform may offer AI-driven insights or recommendations to help you find relevant EdTech solutions. These suggestions are for guidance only and come with no guarantee of accuracy or suitability – always use your own judgment. Privacy: We value your privacy. Any personal data you provide is used according to our Privacy Policy and in line with UNICEF’s data protection standards. By using the platform, you consent to such data use. Changes and Contact: We may update these Terms as the platform evolves. We will post any changes on this page. If you have questions or need help, you can reach out to us at the contact information provided at the end of this document.
1. Introduction and Purpose
The Learning Cabinet’s mission is to connect education stakeholders with high-quality EdTech solutions. It was created by UNICEF’s Office of Innovation together with strategic partners (including governmental, academic, and industry collaborators) as part of a commitment to equitable, quality education. Built on UNICEF’s EdTech for Good framework – which emphasizes safety, inclusion, impact, and scalability – the platform showcases EdTech tools that have undergone rigorous assessment. Our goal is to empower governments, schools, teachers, and other decision-makers to make informed choices about digital learning tools, ultimately supporting better learning outcomes for children, especially in underserved communities. These Terms of Use explain the conditions under which you may use the Learning Cabinet. By accessing the platform, you are entering into an agreement to follow these Terms. The purpose of the Terms is to ensure the platform is used in a safe, lawful, and constructive manner aligned with UNICEF’s digital safeguarding principles and the platform’s goals. If you cannot agree to these Terms, please do not use the Learning Cabinet.
2. Scope of the Platform and Intended Users
Scope of the Platform: The Learning Cabinet is an online discovery platform that provides information about various EdTech products and initiatives. This includes descriptions of digital learning tools, their features, target audience, evidence of impact, and other relevant details submitted by EdTech providers or gathered by the Learning Cabinet team. The platform may also include resources such as evaluations, case studies, or comparison tools to help users understand the context and effectiveness of listed solutions. Importantly, the Learning Cabinet is not a marketplace – it does not sell products or services – and it does not directly provide classroom content to students. Instead, it serves as a reference hub to inform and guide educational decisions and investments. Intended Users: The platform is intended for use by government education officials, policymakers, educators, school leaders, EdTech innovators, researchers, and other stakeholders interested in EdTech for learning. It is designed to be useful for anyone looking to discover and evaluate digital learning solutions, particularly those aiming to address educational needs in low-resource or hard-to-reach settings. While the platform is publicly accessible (so students or parents can browse it as well), its content is geared toward professional and institutional users rather than children. If you are under the age of 13, you should use the site only with parental or guardian consent, as noted above. Global and Inclusive Approach: The Learning Cabinet has a global scope. EdTech solutions featured may come from anywhere in the world and are chosen for their potential to improve learning outcomes, especially for marginalized communities. The platform prioritizes solutions that align with principles of equity, inclusion, and safety – for example, tools that protect user data, are accessible to learners with disabilities, can function with limited internet, or are culturally adaptable. However, inclusion of a solution on the platform does not guarantee it will be suitable in every context. Users should consider local conditions and needs when interpreting the information provided. The Learning Cabinet’s role is to provide a starting point for exploration, not a final endorsement or a one-size-fits-all answer to educational challenges.
3. User Registration and Responsibilities
You may browse much of the Learning Cabinet without registering. However, certain features and functionalities might require you to create a user account. When registering for an account on the platform, you agree to the following conditions and responsibilities: Provide Accurate Information: You must provide truthful, current, and complete information about yourself (or your organization) as prompted by the registration form. This may include details like your name, email address, affiliation, and your role. You also agree to update your information if it changes. We may, at our discretion, perform checks or require verification to confirm your details. Accounts found to contain false information may be suspended or removed. Account Security: You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account login credentials. Do not share your password with others or allow anyone unauthorized to access your account. If you suspect any unauthorized use of your account or a security breach, you should notify us immediately. We are not liable for any loss or damage arising from your failure to safeguard your account information. Age Requirements: As noted, if you are under 18 years old, you should not create an account or submit information without the involvement and supervision of a parent or legal guardian. Accounts for organizations (such as EdTech companies or schools) should be created by an authorized representative who is an adult. Lawful and Respectful Use: You agree to use the Learning Cabinet only for lawful purposes and in a manner that is respectful to others and does not infringe anyone’s rights or restrict others’ use of the platform. As a user of the platform, you agree NOT to: - Harass, threaten, abuse, or impersonate other users or individuals. For example, you will not defame others, engage in hate speech, or use the platform to bully or intimidate. - Post or transmit any content that is unlawful, harmful, obscene, or otherwise objectionable. This includes content that is defamatory, contains pornography or graphic violence, or incites illegal activity or discrimination of any kind. - Upload viruses, malware, or any other harmful code, or take any action that could damage, disable, or impair the platform’s functionality (such as launching denial-of-service attacks or attempting to hack into restricted areas). - Misrepresent your identity or affiliation. You will not pretend to be someone you are not, and if you are acting on behalf of an organization (such as submitting an EdTech solution), you will truthfully represent your authority to do so. - Infringe on intellectual property rights. You will not upload or share content (including text, images, or software) that you do not have the right to use. For any content from third parties that you share, you must have permission or legal right (see Section 4 on Intellectual Property for more detail). - Collect or harvest personal information of others from the platform without their consent. You also agree not to attempt to scrape, crawl, or use automated means to extract data from the platform, except as allowed under these Terms or via any public API that we might provide. By adhering to these rules of conduct, you help maintain a safe and productive environment on the Learning Cabinet for everyone. We reserve the right to remove any content or suspend any account that violates these rules or that we find inappropriate, at our sole discretion. Users are encouraged to report any abuse or content that violates these Terms via the contact information provided. Remember that all your activities on the platform must also comply with any applicable laws and regulations in your jurisdiction.
4. Content Ownership and Intellectual Property
Platform Content: Unless otherwise noted, the content available on the Learning Cabinet (such as text, reports, evaluations, platform design, graphics, and compilations of data) is owned or licensed by UNICEF and its partners involved in the Learning Cabinet initiative. This content is protected by copyright, trademark, and other intellectual property laws. We reserve all rights to this material. You are allowed to access and use the platform content for your personal or institutional educational purposes (for example, to inform decision-making, research, or training within your school or organization). However, you may not copy, reproduce, republish, upload, distribute, modify, create derivative works from, or commercially exploit any portion of the platform content without explicit prior permission from us or the respective rights holder. If you wish to reuse or share any content beyond fair use or the normal functions of the site, please contact us for permission. User-Contributed Content: Some content on the Learning Cabinet may be contributed by users — for instance, EdTech providers might submit descriptions of their products, images (like logos or screenshots), and related materials, or users might post comments/reviews (if that feature exists). In such cases: - By submitting or posting content to the platform, you affirm that you own the rights to that content or have obtained all necessary permissions (for example, you have the right to use a company’s logo or to share a case study). - You grant UNICEF and the Learning Cabinet a worldwide, royalty-free, non-exclusive license to use, host, store, reproduce, modify (for formatting or presentation purposes only), and display that content on the platform and in any communications or materials promoting the Learning Cabinet. This license is only for the purpose of operating and improving the platform and will not make us the owners of your content; you retain ownership of your contributions. - We do not claim ownership of your original content, but by sharing it, you do give us permission to present it to other users and to make it available for them to view. If you want to remove or update content you have contributed (for example, update your product information), you can do so through your account or by contacting us, and we will make reasonable efforts to comply, provided it does not violate other obligations. Trademarks and Names: The name “UNICEF,” the UNICEF logo, the name “Learning Cabinet,” and any UNICEF or United Nations emblems are protected trademarks. They cannot be used by users without prior written permission from UNICEF. Likewise, the logos and names of our partner organizations or any sponsors appearing on the platform are protected by those respective entities. Unauthorized use of these marks is prohibited. All other trademarks or service marks that appear on the Learning Cabinet (for example, the names or logos of EdTech products featured) belong to their respective owners. Their appearance on the platform does not imply that you have any rights to use them beyond viewing the information on our site. Permissible Use of Content: You may download or print materials from the Learning Cabinet for your own, non-commercial use (for instance, printing a report to discuss with your team) as long as you do not remove any copyright or attribution notices. If content on the platform is explicitly marked as available under a certain license (for example, if an evaluation report is provided under a Creative Commons license), you must adhere to the terms of that license when using that content. We will indicate if any content has special licensing terms. In absence of such an indication, assume that all rights are reserved by the owners. No Reverse Engineering: You agree not to reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble any of the software or technology underlying the platform. The platform’s structure, algorithms (including those used for AI recommendations), and code are proprietary to the Learning Cabinet initiative and/or our technology partners. Any attempt to extract the source code or create unauthorized derivative software is prohibited. By respecting these intellectual property provisions, you help ensure that content creators (whether UNICEF, partners, or users) are acknowledged and that the platform can continue to operate and grow its offerings.
5. Use of AI-Based Insights and Recommendations
The Learning Cabinet may incorporate artificial intelligence (AI) or algorithm-driven features to enhance your experience. For example, the platform might suggest EdTech solutions you could explore based on the interests you indicate, provide automated summaries or comparisons of products, or offer interactive tools that use AI to answer questions about the EdTech landscape. While we aim for these features to be helpful and accurate, it is important to understand their limitations and the terms under which they are provided: - Advisory Nature of AI Outputs: Any insights, recommendations, or answers provided by an AI feature on the platform are for informational purposes only. They should not be considered professional advice or an authoritative guarantee. The AI might highlight options or analyze data to support your decision-making, but you are responsible for verifying any critical information independently. You should use your own judgment and, if needed, consult experts before making major decisions based on AI-provided information. - No Guarantee of Accuracy: AI technology is advanced but not infallible. The Learning Cabinet’s AI-based tools do not guarantee 100% accuracy or completeness. The suggestions or content generated might occasionally be outdated, incomplete, biased, or even incorrect. We continuously work to improve our AI (in line with UNICEF’s principles of safety, fairness, and transparency in technology), but errors may still occur. Therefore, do not rely solely on AI outputs without cross-checking key details (for example, double-check a product’s specifications from its official website or verify an AI-generated summary against the original source). - User Input and Data: Some AI features might tailor their responses based on information you provide (such as your role, the challenges you describe, or previous interactions on the site). All data handling in these cases is done in accordance with our Privacy Policy – for instance, if you input preferences to get recommendations, that data may be temporarily used by the AI to generate results for you. We do not use personal data in AI systems beyond what is necessary to deliver the service, and we do not sell or misuse your data. We also take steps to anonymize or aggregate data where possible. - Transparency and Improvement: We will try to explain the functionality of significant AI features (for example, if an AI tool is recommending products, we may indicate it’s “Recommended based on your interest in [literacy tools]” or similar). If you have questions about how an AI-based recommendation was made, you can contact us for more information. Additionally, by using the AI features, you understand that we may record interactions (e.g., which suggestions were clicked) to improve the system, as long as doing so aligns with our Privacy Policy. - No Liability for AI Actions: As with the rest of the platform, your use of AI features is at your own risk. We are not liable for decisions you make or outcomes that occur based on AI recommendations or content. For example, if an AI tool suggests an EdTech program and you decide to implement it, any results (positive or negative) from that implementation are solely your responsibility and the responsibility of the product provider. Always exercise due diligence. - User Feedback: We encourage users to provide feedback on AI features. If an AI recommendation seems inappropriate, irrelevant, or incorrect, or if you encounter content generated by the AI that you believe violates our guidelines (such as offensive or biased output), please notify us. User feedback is valuable in helping us refine our algorithms and ensure they align with the values of the Learning Cabinet initiative, including being equitable and culturally sensitive. In summary, AI-based insights on the Learning Cabinet are tools to assist you – they do not replace human judgment or due diligence. We are excited to use innovative technology to help simplify EdTech discovery, but we appreciate your understanding of its advisory nature.
6. Disclaimers and Limitation of Liability
The Learning Cabinet is provided as a public service by UNICEF and its partners to share information about EdTech solutions. However, there are important disclaimers and limits to our liability that you need to know: - “As Is” Availability: The platform and all content on it are provided “as is” and “as available.” This means that we make no guarantees that the site will be free of errors, uninterrupted, or secure. While we strive to maintain high quality, we do not warrant that the information on the site is completely accurate, up-to-date, or suitable for every purpose. Use of the site is at your own risk. - No Endorsement of EdTech Solutions: UNICEF and the Learning Cabinet’s partners do not endorse or recommend any EdTech product, service, company, or provider listed or described on the platform. Inclusion of a particular product or mention of a company is for informational purposes only. It should not be interpreted as an approval, certification, or guarantee of that product’s quality, nor as a preference over other products. Any testimonials, ratings, or evaluations on the platform are intended to share insights, not to advertise or favor a specific solution. Users should conduct their own research and judgement before adopting any EdTech tool. - Third-Party Content and Accuracy: Much of the information on the platform may be provided by third parties (for example, EdTech companies might provide their product details, or external researchers might supply evaluation reports). UNICEF and the Learning Cabinet team are not responsible for the accuracy, completeness, or reliability of content submitted by users or third parties. We do not guarantee that any such information is error-free or verified. For instance, if an EdTech provider submits information about their software’s capabilities or impact, that information is the responsibility of the provider. We encourage providers to be truthful and accurate and may conduct reviews, but we cannot independently certify every claim. Therefore, we disclaim any liability for misinformation or omissions in the content provided by external contributors. If you notice information that seems incorrect or misleading, please let us know so we can investigate and correct it if needed. - General Information Only: All content on the Learning Cabinet is provided for general informational purposes. It is not intended as professional advice (e.g., it’s not legal, financial, or pedagogical consulting tailored to your situation). You should not make any decision (such as purchasing a product or implementing a program) solely based on information from this site without consulting other sources and, if appropriate, professionals in that field. - No Warranty: To the fullest extent permissible under applicable laws, we disclaim all warranties and representations, whether express or implied, regarding the platform. This includes, but is not limited to, warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, and any warranties arising out of course of dealing or usage of trade. We cannot promise that the platform will meet your requirements or expectations, or that it will be free from viruses or other harmful components. - Limitation of Liability: UNICEF, its officials, employees, agents, and partners shall not be liable for any loss or damage of any kind arising from or in connection with your use of (or inability to use) the Learning Cabinet. This includes, without limitation, any direct, indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of data, opportunities, reputation, or profits, whether or not we have been advised of the possibility of such damages. For example, we are not liable if: the platform is temporarily unavailable and you miss an opportunity, an EdTech solution you learned about on our site does not perform as you expected, your data is lost due to a technical issue on our site, or any other harm results from using our site or relying on its content. - User Conduct and Data: We are not responsible for the conduct of any user or third party on the platform. If other users misbehave, post offensive content, or otherwise violate these Terms, we are not liable for their actions, though we will take appropriate action when we become aware of violations. Similarly, we are not responsible for any content that you might find undesirable or harmful that was posted by someone else; however, we do encourage you to report such content. - Security and Viruses: We take reasonable measures to secure the platform, but we do not guarantee that the site will be free from viruses, malware, or other security threats. You are responsible for using up-to-date antivirus software on your device and exercising caution when downloading any material. Any download or access to resources from the platform is at your own discretion and risk. - Indemnification: (In simple terms: if your actions cause harm, you may be responsible for the consequences.) You agree that if you violate these Terms or misuse the platform in a way that causes harm to us or others, you will indemnify (compensate) and hold harmless UNICEF, its officials, employees, agents, and partners from and against any claims, losses, liabilities, or expenses (including reasonable legal fees) that arise from your actions. This means you may need to reimburse us if a third party makes a claim against us due to something you did in breach of this agreement. We will notify you if such a situation arises and may require your cooperation in our defense. - No Waiver of Privileges: UNICEF is an organization of the United Nations and as such enjoys certain privileges and immunities under international law. Nothing in these Terms shall be deemed a waiver, express or implied, of any of the privileges and immunities of UNICEF. This clause preserves UNICEF’s legal protections and does not submit UNICEF to any jurisdiction that it would not otherwise be subject to. By using the Learning Cabinet, you acknowledge and accept these disclaimers and limitations of liability. These conditions help ensure that the platform can operate as a resource-sharing service without undue legal risk, given that it is offered as a public good.
7. Privacy and Data Use
Your privacy is important to us. The Learning Cabinet collects and uses personal data only as necessary to operate the platform and as described in our Privacy Policy (please refer to that document for full details on what information we collect and how we use or share it). Below is a brief overview of key privacy and data use practices: - Data Collection: When you use the Learning Cabinet, we may collect certain information from you. This can include information you provide directly (for example, when creating an account you provide your name, email, organization, etc., and if you are an EdTech provider, details about your product) as well as information collected automatically (such as usage statistics, search queries on the platform, and technical data like your IP address or device type). If you contact us or report an issue, we will also collect whatever information you choose to share in that communication. - Use of Data: We use the collected data to operate and improve the platform. For instance, your registration information is used to manage your account and allow you to log in; your email may be used to send you important announcements or updates about the platform (but we won’t send you promotional emails unrelated to the Learning Cabinet unless you opt-in to such communications). Usage data helps us understand which parts of the site are most useful and to refine our content or AI recommendation features. If you are an EdTech provider submitting a solution, the information you provide is used to populate the listing for your product so that users can learn about it. - Data Protection and Security: We are committed to protecting your data. We follow UNICEF’s data protection standards and industry best practices to secure the information in our custody. This includes using encryption where appropriate, limiting access to personal data to authorized personnel, and implementing safeguards to prevent unauthorized access or disclosure. However, no system can be 100% secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security of your data. You also play a role in security by keeping your account credentials confidential. - Sharing of Data: We do not sell your personal data to third parties. We may share some data with our strategic partners who are helping to run or improve the Learning Cabinet, but this is strictly for the purposes of platform functionality (for example, a technology partner helping to analyze usage patterns, under appropriate confidentiality agreements). If you post content or reviews on the platform in the future, those will be public (attributed to your username or organization, as applicable). We might also disclose information if required by applicable law, or in response to lawful requests (e.g., to cooperate with an investigation), but given UNICEF’s status, such scenarios are handled in line with our legal obligations and privileges. - Children’s Privacy: The platform is not aimed at collecting personal data from children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 without verifiable parental consent. If you believe a child under 13 has provided personal data to the platform without proper consent, please contact us so we can take appropriate action (such as deleting the account and associated information). - Cookies and Tracking: The site may use cookies or similar technologies to enhance user experience (for example, to keep you logged in or remember your preferences) and to gather analytics about how the site is used. Our Privacy Policy provides details on what cookies we use and your choices (such as opting out of certain analytics tracking). - Data Retention: We will retain your personal information only for as long as necessary to fulfill the purposes outlined in the Privacy Policy and these Terms. For example, account information is kept while your account remains active. If you decide to delete your account, we will delete or anonymize personal data associated with it within a reasonable timeframe, except for any data we are required to keep for legal or compliance reasons. - Your Rights: Depending on your jurisdiction and UNICEF’s policies, you may have certain rights regarding your personal data, such as the right to access the data we hold about you, request correction of inaccuracies, or even deletion of your data. The Privacy Policy and related guidelines will inform you how you can exercise these rights (for instance, by contacting us). We will strive to honor your requests in accordance with applicable laws and our capacities as an international organization. In summary, we use your data carefully and only to support the platform’s mission of connecting the education community with EdTech solutions. By using the Learning Cabinet, you consent to the collection and use of information as described here and in the Privacy Policy. We encourage you to read the full Privacy Policy for a comprehensive understanding, and to reach out to us if you have any questions about your privacy.
8. External Links and Third-Party Services
The Learning Cabinet may contain links or references to external websites, platforms, or third-party services. These links are provided for convenience and informational purposes – for example, a product listing may include a link to the EdTech provider’s official website, a research report might link to its source, or we might list resources/toolkits hosted on other sites. It’s important to understand that once you click an external link and leave the Learning Cabinet site, these Terms (and our Privacy Policy) no longer apply on the external site. Here’s what you should keep in mind: - No Control Over External Sites: The inclusion of any link on our platform does not mean we have control over the content, policies, or practices of the external site. We do not routinely monitor or vet the third-party websites we link to, and their content can change without our knowledge. This means we cannot guarantee that an external site’s information is accurate, its content is appropriate, or that it is free from malware. You should use caution and your own judgment when visiting any external links. - No Endorsement of Third-Party Content: A link from the Learning Cabinet to an external website (or a reference to an external service or organization) does not imply endorsement or approval by UNICEF or the Learning Cabinet of that site or service. For example, if a particular educational app’s page on our platform links to the app’s own website, it’s simply to help you get more information – it doesn’t mean we certify everything on that website or agree with their views. Similarly, if our site mentions or integrates a service (like a map or a video from a third-party platform), it’s for functionality, not an endorsement of the provider. - Third-Party Services and Integrations: If the Learning Cabinet integrates any third-party services (for instance, using a search engine, an analytics tool, or an authentication service provided by another company), your use of those specific functions may be subject to the third party’s terms of use and privacy policy. We will generally indicate when a third-party service is being used (for example, “Powered by [ServiceName]”). You should review those third-party terms as well, although we strive to ensure any integration aligns with our own standards and that no unnecessary data is shared. - External Content Responsibility: Any opinions, advice, statements, or information presented on external websites are those of the respective authors or owners of those sites, not of UNICEF or the Learning Cabinet. We do not assume responsibility for the content or any damages or consequences arising from your access to or use of external sites. If you decide to engage in any transactions or communications on an external site (such as signing up for a product trial, purchasing a service, or sharing your information), you do so at your own risk and under the terms of that external service. - Reporting Issues with Links: If you encounter a link on the Learning Cabinet that appears broken or leads to inappropriate content (for example, a link that was meant to go to a helpful resource but now goes to something unrelated or harmful), please inform us. We will investigate and update or remove problematic links as necessary. In short, when you see a link on the Learning Cabinet and choose to follow it, remember that you are entering a space that we don’t govern. We recommend that you review the terms and policies of any third-party sites you visit. Your use of external websites is solely between you and those sites.
9. Termination and Account Suspension
We hope all users will benefit from and abide by the rules of the Learning Cabinet, but we reserve the right to suspend or terminate your access if necessary. Below are the circumstances and procedures related to termination or suspension of accounts and access: - Our Right to Terminate or Suspend: The Learning Cabinet team (UNICEF and its partners operating the platform) may, at its sole discretion, suspend or permanently terminate your user account or restrict your access to part or all of the platform at any time, for any reason or even without a specific reason. Some common grounds for termination include: violation of these Terms of Use, unlawful behavior, abuse of the platform (such as spamming or attempting to compromise security), posting prohibited content, or inactivity of an account over an extended period. We also reserve the right to remove or modify any content (including user-contributed content) that we find violates our policies or for technical/legal reasons. - No Liability for Termination: If your access is suspended or terminated by us, you agree that we are not liable for any consequences this may have for you. For example, if you lose access to information you had stored on the platform or if you are unable to use certain features as a result, we are not responsible for those losses. It is your responsibility to keep backup copies of any data you do not want to lose (such as content you have posted or notes you have taken), as access cannot be guaranteed indefinitely. - User-Initiated Termination: If you wish to delete your account or stop using the Learning Cabinet, you may do so at any time. The platform may provide an account deletion or deactivation option in your user profile settings. If not, you can request deletion by contacting us at the provided contact email. Upon receiving such a request and verifying your identity (for security), we will deactivate your account and delete or anonymize personal data associated with it, in accordance with our Privacy Policy. Please note that content you have contributed (for example, a product listing you submitted) may remain on the platform if it is relevant to other users, but we can remove or anonymize the attribution to you upon request. - Effect of Termination: Upon termination of your account or access rights, these Terms of Use are also terminated with respect to you. However, certain provisions of the Terms will survive and remain effective even after termination. These include (but are not limited to) sections related to Intellectual Property, Disclaimers and Limitation of Liability, Indemnification, Governing Clauses (No Waiver of Immunities), and any other clause which by its nature should survive termination. In simple terms, even if you are no longer using the platform, you are still bound by the obligations you agreed to while you were a user (for things like not misusing content you obtained, or respecting UNICEF’s immunities, etc.). - Reinstatement: If your account was suspended and you believe the issue leading to suspension has been resolved or was a misunderstanding, you can reach out to us to discuss the matter. We may or may not reinstate access, at our discretion, and possibly under certain conditions. However, we are not obligated to reinstate accounts and in many cases (especially for serious or repeated violations) the decision will be final. - Service Changes and Termination of Platform: Separately from user account termination, note that the Learning Cabinet platform itself may evolve or even discontinue. We reserve the right to modify, replace, or terminate the operation of the platform (or any part of it) at any time. For example, we might shut down the platform for maintenance or decide in the future to transition to a different system. If the entire service is terminated, we will attempt to provide notice to users in advance (for instance, an announcement on the website). However, there may be circumstances (like security emergencies) where advance notice is not possible. In any case, UNICEF and its partners will not be liable for the termination of the service or loss of any data or content in such an event, though we will strive to act fairly and reasonably should such a situation occur. We trust that users will use the Learning Cabinet in good faith, and account termination is typically a last resort to protect the platform and its community. If you follow the Terms and use the platform constructively, it’s very unlikely your access will ever be restricted.
10. Modifications to the Terms
The Learning Cabinet is an evolving initiative, and we may update or revise these Terms of Use from time to time to reflect changes in our services, policies, or for other operational, legal, or regulatory reasons. Here’s what you need to know about modifications to these Terms: - Notification of Changes: When we make significant changes to the Terms, we will provide some form of notification. This may include updating the “Last Updated” date at the top of this document and/or posting a notice on the Learning Cabinet website (for example, a banner or announcement). In certain cases, if you have an account, we might also send an email notification to the address associated with your account. However, it remains your responsibility to review the Terms periodically for any updates. - Acceptance of Changes: Any revision of the Terms will become effective at the time of posting, unless otherwise stated. By continuing to use the Learning Cabinet after a new version of the Terms has been posted, you are agreeing to the revised Terms. If you do not agree with any update or modification, you must stop using the platform. We recommend that you print or save a copy of these Terms for your records, and perhaps note the Last Updated date, so you can compare new versions to understand changes. - Material Changes: If there are material changes that affect your rights or obligations, we will try to highlight them in the notification (for example, if we add a new section on a feature or change our liability terms). We aim to be transparent about what is different. Nonetheless, once changes are effective, they apply to all users (retroactively for ongoing users and immediately for new users). - Consistency with Policies: Changes to these Terms will not retroactively alter our commitment in the Privacy Policy regarding how we handle your previously collected data without your consent. Any significant changes to privacy practices would be handled via the Privacy Policy (and likely involve seeking consent or giving an opt-out, depending on the scenario). In essence, modifications to these Terms are primarily about how the platform operates and your legal relationship to it. - Edits and Corrections: Not all modifications will be major – we might make minor edits for clarity, correct typographical errors, or update section numbering without formal notice. These kind of minor changes, while not specifically communicated, will still be reflected in the published Terms. Rest assured that we won’t use a minor edit as a way to slip in a substantial policy change; substantial changes will be communicated as described above. By keeping the Terms up-to-date, we ensure that our agreement with users remains clear and fair as circumstances change. Thank you for taking the time to understand your rights and responsibilities.
